NEW YORK, NY, July 9, 2024 –– Frenalytics, the patented personalized learning and data collection software for students with unique learning needs, hosted a series of professional development sessions for NYC Department of Education’s special education teachers across the Brooklyn North High School district on NYC DOE Chancellor’s Day in early June.

The virtual workshop, entitled “Unlocking Potential: Automatic + AI Powered Progress Monitoring for Special Education”, was delivered to over 150 special education educators across 47 schools in NYC Department of Education’s Brooklyn North High School district.

Across three virtual sessions, the Frenalytics team, comprised of Caitlyn Hutchinson, Lead Product Designer and Shawn Sobieski MEd, Curriculum Development Director for FrenalyticsEDU, highlighted the present and future of progress monitoring, utilizing AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT to automate portions of goal-setting and progress monitoring for IEPs, and discussing the next wave of automated progress monitoring tools available in FrenalyticsEDU’s award winning platform.

“It was thrilling to help people realize how technology, especially FrenalyticsEDU, empowers people to spend less time on mundane tasks and more time personalizing their efforts for their students,” shared Shawn Sobieski MEd, Curriculum Development Director for FrenalyticsEDU.

“Valid concerns that AI enables student cheating and that it could make teaching jobs obsolete were shifted to consider ways AI can be used as a tool, not a replacement,” added Caitlyn Hutchinson, Lead Product Designer at Frenalytics. “By the end of the workshop, we had reframed the narrative around AI as teachers shared practical uses for AI within administrative tasks, such as reformatting information, bridging knowledge gaps, and finding resources.”

The sessions received an overwhelmingly positive response from the participants. Special education teachers highlighted how “it never occurred to me that I could integrate AI so seamlessly into our current system” prior to the session and expressed appreciation for “highlighting these great features that I can now bring back to my team.

In a post-PD feedback survey, participants rated the session, on average, a 4.8/5 (with 5 being “excellent”), and when asked how confident they felt in their ability to bring what they learned back to their special education program (with 5 being “very confident”), attendees responded with a 4.2/5 average score.
