NEW YORK, NY, July 30, 2024 –– Frenalytics, the patented personalized learning and data collection software for people with cognitive disabilities, attended ISTELive ’24 in late June, an innovative three-day event that aims to solve problems in education through technology and innovation.
The International Society for Technology in Education wrapped up its ISTELive ’24 conference in Denver this June. In a three-day event spanning from June 23-26, the conference took over the Colorado Convention Center, aiming to bring educators together and to solve problems in education through technology and innovation.
About ISTE
ISTE is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping educators work with technology to propel education forward globally. Host of the yearly ISTELive conference, ISTE is one of the chief organizations driving innovation in the field of education.
The conference’s expansive Expo was a sea of tables and booths displaying exciting new technologies. Conference rooms to the side hosted important discussions of trends, struggles, and potential solutions in education.
The event attracted more than 16,000 attendees, consisting of teachers, library media specialists, education leaders, and tech providers from around the world. The conference opened with inspiring words from Lyla June Johnston, Ph.D., indigenous musician, author and community organizer, and Merritt Moore, Ph.D, quantum physicist and professional ballet dancer. Among other main stage speakers we heard from were PhDs, esteemed science communicators, tech educators, activists, and professors at the Wharton School and University of California Los Angeles. We also heard from the leadership of ISTE.
Major Themes in Education
The Frenalytics team at ISTELive consisted of Matt Giovanniello, CEO, and Julia Luyten, Product Management Intern and Denver resident. We kicked off the conference by attending EdWeek’s EdTech market briefings, where we received an in-depth review of current trends in the EdTech market. Notable themes of the day included integration of AI in education, student social-emotional health concerns, attendance issues, and impending COVID ESSER stimulus expiration.
One trend that especially stood out to the Frenalytics team was the high rates of teacher turnover. In the EdWeek briefings, it was clear that teachers report a series of high stressors that may be influencing this. EdWeek referenced that 54% of teachers reported social, emotional, mental wellness needs as being a stressor; helping students reach standards; and, particularly important to us, 32% of teachers reported their prime difficulty being supporting the needs of students with disabilities.
Frenalytics Offers Solutions
In this landscape of challenges, Frenalytics emerges as a useful tool. Real-time automated progress monitoring and personalized learning streamlines logistics like reaching IEP goals, freeing time for teachers and decreasing their stress. This in turn can help to decrease rates of teacher turnover and burnout. Moreover, less energy spent on logistics leaves space for teachers to foster stronger connections and dive into nuances of intricate, personalized instruction. By engaging directly with students, teachers grow richer bonds with them, helping also to address the social emotional needs of students (another high-profile concern of educators at the conference).
After diving deeply into trends in the market and contemplating Frenalytics’ impact, we explored the tables at the conference. We took photos with Moby at BrainPop, competed in demo educational games, and Matt even changed the keyboard of a chromebook in exactly 1 minute and 2 seconds at the Vivacity booth. We saw some amazing innovations, met great people, and I enjoyed showing everyone around Denver. ISTELive 24 was a success!
